About Dr. Higginbotham
Passionate about the dental profession, Dr. Higginbotham started working at an oral and maxillofacial surgery office during his undergraduate years in college. He found the scope of practice and surgical procedures fascinating, and this office experience inspired him to pursue training in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Dr. Higginbotham enjoys having the ability and freedom to provide beneficial care to his patients. The most rewarding part about being an oral surgeon is seeing the improvement in his patients’ lives. His philosophy of care involves approaching each patient with friendliness, honesty, and compassion. Dr. Higginbotham makes the surgical procedure as easy as possible by telling each patient exactly what to expect, offering multiple anesthetic options, and being available to answer questions.
Education & Residency
Dr. Higginbotham completed his undergraduate studies in biology at the University of Detroit Mercy. He went on to attend the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree (DDS). Following dental school, he extended his training and expertise in the surgical field by earning a Medical Degree (MD) from Wayne State University School of Medicine.
Dr. Higginbotham completed his residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Detroit Medical Center, where he gained hands-on experience treating patients with many oral health needs. He also learned how to safely administer all forms of anesthesia and care for patients in a hospital setting.
Certifications
Dr. Higginbotham is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). He is a member of many other professional organizations, including the American Dental Association (ADA), the Michigan Dental Association (MDA), Oakland County Dental Society (OCSD), the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), the Michigan Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (MSOMS), and the North East Regional Board of Dental Examiners (NERB).
Hobbies & Interests
Outside of work, Dr. Higginbotham likes to spend time with his wife, son, and daughter. He enjoys watching and playing both hockey and golf.
